I’ve spent so much of my life wishing I looked like someone else, or had what someone else had, or was someone else. I’ve spent so much of my life APOLOGIZING for being me. Way too much of my thinking has been on these types of negative things. And I know where it comes from. It comes from all around us. It comes from the images we see, the articles we read, and the things we hear.
The media portrays life in such a way that nothing ever seems good enough anymore. If you aren’t at the top of your company, or your book isn’t a best-seller, or your blog is read by only friends and family, or your independent film didn’t win any awards or the album you just dropped isn’t produced by Dr. Dre, WHO CAN REALLY SAY THAT IT “ISN’T GOOD ENOUGH”?
The media that doesn’t actually know OR CARE about you? The “cool kids” from your high school that still, 10 years later, spend their days being bullies because they have issues with themselves? The ex-best friend that couldn’t support your creative ability because she was jealous? The family member that believes you need to believe ALL of their beliefs because they can’t accept that other people might have different opinions?
So many wasted thoughts, so many wasted days.
I REFUSE TO LIVE LIKE THIS ANYMORE.
I am taking a stand for individuality. I am taking a stand for creativity. I am taking a stand for just being me.
I will no longer apologize for being me. I will no longer apologize for laughing too loud. I will no longer apologize for my kids face’s being dirty because we were busy all day. I will no longer apologize for standing up for myself. I will no longer apologize for my own beliefs. I will no longer apologize that my house isn’t spotless because I spent the day writing or playing with my kids outside.
I AM ME.
I AM EMBRACING MYSELF, MY INDIVIDUALITY, MY CREATIVENESS.
And I think you should do the same.
